1.

Some people don’t enjoy travelling because it means leaving behind what’s known to them, be it their comfort, friends, favourite food or pets. Just getting on a plane and going is the first step. It’s exhilarating to forget what’s familiar and to expand your horizons. Once you make the step, there is no better feeling than taking on unfamiliar territory and making it familiar. Don’t be afraid, go for it!

2.

Travelling or living somewhere completely different gives you a new perspective. Being somewhere new allows you to be part of and appreciate a new place, the people, language and everything in between. Take the time to come out of your shell and interact with the locals. This can’t be taught, only experienced.

3.

Believe it or not, you can survive on very little. Most people around the world do. Traveling extensively forces you to pack lightly. It will also teach you that sleeping in run-down guesthouses or hostels is not the end of the world. You might have to sacrifice lavish meals to travel for longer, but, as a result, you’ll realise that you don’t need a lot in order to survive.

4.

Travelling can get lonely, though. You’re constantly saying goodbye to people you’ve made friends with, and often have no-one to talk to or go sightseeing with. Walking around a new city alone takes some getting used to, bút it’s really okay to do it alone. Being alone and having time to reflect on your experiences will help you appreciate them more. You wil return home with a new sense of independence!

5.

Sometimes it takes a little thinking outside of the box to get by. No wi-fi for directions? The buses to your next planned destination are all booked? There are always alternatives and these unexpected problems on the road should never stop people from travelling. Studies show that people who travel are more resourceful and are better at adjusting to new situations.

6.

A trip or a weekend away can rejuvenate us, and a new perspective is gained. A home- cooked meal will mean so much more to you because you missed it for so long. Seeing a statue or monument in your hometown will remind you of the one you saw abroad. It’s really the seemingly „unimportant” that gives us joy in life. Travelling is one way to learn this.
